Tribal people or Adivasis comprise a group of people of the same race and
with same customs, language, religion etc. living in a particular area.
Here are some tribes of India. Let's read about them:
1. Bhils : Bhils are a scheduled tribe in the states of Gujarat,
Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
2. Garo : The Garos are a tribe in Meghalaya. The
majority of them are Christians.
3. Gond : With over four million people, Gond is the largest tribe in
Central India. The Gonds are traditionally agriculturalists; some
practice shifting cultivation, while others raise cereals or herd
cattle.
4. Khasi : The Khasi is a tribe mainly residing in
the Khasi and Jaintia Hills in the state of Meghalaya. They
comprise almost 50% of the population of Garo Meghalaya, the
remainder of whom are mostly Khasi.
5. Maldhari : Maldhari are nomadic hardsmen, who live in
Gujarat.
6. Santhals : The Santhals are the largest tribal
community in India, found mainly in the states
of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
7. Toda : The Toda people are a small tribe of
Southern India, who reside in the Nilgiri hills. The Toda's
population is less than 1,000.
