A species of animals is said to be endangered if it is feared to become

extinct. A species becomes extinct, when it cannot pass down its own kind.
Information about some endangered animals is given below. Read it,

identify the animals and write their names in the blanks :

1. These are the largest animals of the cat family. They can reach a
length of 11 feet and have a weight of more than 300kg. Highly

endangered because of illegal hunting or poaching.

2. This large bird which also is one of the heaviest flying birds, was
once found commonly in India. Due to hunting and habitat

destruction, it is now on the verge of extinction.

3. This animal is found in the mountainous regions of India, Nepal,

China and Central Asia. There are only about 6000 animals of
this species are left in the wild.

4. Once found in large numbers in India and Pakistan, population

of these animals declined by 99% between 2000-2007, due to ill
effects of a medicine given to the cattle whose dead bodies they

fed upon.

5. This animal is found throughout the Himalayan region. It

become endangered due to hunting and habitat destruction by
humans.

6. These are highly intelligent animals of Central Africa. They are
highly endangered because of the habitat destruction and

poaching.
