Birds Are Beautifulirds Are Beautifulirds Are Beautiful
Match the birds with their descriptions.
1. My oversized, colourful bill has made me one
of the world's most popular birds. My bill is
useful as a feeding tool.
..................................
2. I am pretty. My head is partially bare, shows
red skin, and I have a dense crest of white
plumes on the nape. I am also on the
endangered species list.
..................................
3. I am believed to be among the most intelligent
of birds. I am long-tailed and can recognize my
mirror image. Bishops were formerly called
"magpies" in humour because of their black
and white vestments.
..................................
4. My unique beak is shaped to 'catch' food. I
wade through shallow water, sweeping my
partly opened bill from side to side and the
moment any small aquatic creature touches the
inside of the bill, I snap it shut.
..................................
5. I love to fly and rarely ever settle voluntarily on
the ground. I drink, bathe, collect food and
nesting material while flying in the air.
..................................
6. I spend most of my time in swimming, diving,
and feeding at sea. I can carry up to 30 small
fish at once. I am also called a 'sea parrot'
because of my brightly coloured beak.
